Efficient use of building textures and models

May I suggest a smarter way of using building models and textures as content? With a project like this the ultimate limiting factor will always be quantity and quality of model and texture content. I would suggest using one standard building texture layout and UV unwrap all buildings so they use this standard texture layout. This way any building can use any texture (and still look good!) massively decreasing the amount of content required. Specialised buildings (eg. train stations, industries) could always use dedicated textures...

Similar methods can be used for vehicles; for example use a standard "flatbed vehicle" texture which can be mapped to many vehicles; truck trailers, train wagons or ship containers.

See http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=44959 for an example of what I mean. Zephyris 14:58, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
