Meeting begins: [22:08:52] So we have present: (in order of mIRC) Hellfire, Metalcore, orudge, Bjarni, broodje, Hyronymus, Qton, Tombe .. [22:16:06] Jpl joins in --- BEGINNING OF AGENDA -- · Summary of decisions made on 12/06/2004 [22:14:27] we decided on terrain type [22:14:40] we thought about hex terrain [22:15:17] but we decided for (someone help me0 [22:15:27] squares [22:15:33] squares [22:15:40] thanks, Metalcore[IRC] [22:16:02] we also decided to attract some new coders but that will be discussed later [22:16:06] thanks :) [22:16:32] That's the next item I think [22:16:35] paltform choice was postponed: we try to keep it as 'open' as possible for the start [22:16:52] Anything on the UI? [22:17:08] no, not yet [22:17:17] a CRC workshop was suggested [22:17:25] that will be a topic later on too [22:17:34] I hope chirho will be in by then [22:18:14] and chochmah offered to help coding with some parts of the project [22:18:32] UI should be on CRC [22:18:44] Anything else? [22:18:48] that's why I refered to it, Jpl [22:18:53] no, that was all IIRC · Programmer recuitment - did our brief publicity campaign work? Hellfire will contact our single volunteer coder. We are looking for more coders through the forum campaign. No selection criteria has been set. We are not yet looking for coders from SF.net All volunteers are accepted! · Research Progress - what do we have? [22:34:36] We have done research into: [22:34:49] - Autoconf (automagically generating Makefiles) [22:35:09] - Language options (using GetText for multiple language support) [22:35:24] - Cross platform libraries (research at 5%) [22:35:36] Actually, Cross platform was assigned to me, [22:35:47] so I've been looking at SDL and WxWidgets [22:36:19] I've done some simple windowing (hello world example) in SDL and WX, and I've done OpenGL in SDL and WX, and from just those two, [22:36:51] I can conclude that SDL is the way to go. WxWidgets has some issues with OpenGL, which could become a (huge) problem if we would depend on that library. [22:36:55] Further, [22:37:13] SDL binaries are very small compared to WX binaries. [22:37:58] SDL OpenGL sample: 66 kB [22:38:22] WxWidgets OpenGL sample: 1.76 mB [22:38:56] So I more or less decided not to support WxWidgets, and go for SDL. Any objections? [22:41:44] So can we all agree to use SDL? ..Tombe,Hyronymus agreed [22:44:43] (for those of you who are interested, here is the sourceforge task list: http://sourceforge.net/pm/?group_id=73145) [23:14:49] Research item: Licensing: GPL or LGPL or perhaps something else? · What should be consider core features of the game? [23:02:21] - Extensibility. Being able to add vehicles and such to the game without recompiling or having to remove other vehicles). [23:02:21] - Multiplayer games: up to 8/16/32??? players. [23:03:12] no maximum number of stations, etc, except limited by memory ..in other words [23:05:19] hard limits far exeeding practical limits [23:06:12] cross platform [23:08:09] yep. And we just decided to fill in the details of that feature using SDL :) [23:09:00] Another core feature: 3D engine, using a rotateable view on the map. What will we use? Orthogonal or Perspective? Rein liked orthogonal, but since we ditched him... ;) ..everyone not agreeing [23:10:36] Ok, postponing it is. Put a poll on the forums :) [23:22:00] A hierarchy in track types, where subclasses of a tracktype inherits properties of the parent, but adds some of its own. · Writing of design documents (related to previous topic IMHO) Broodje, Qton and Hyronymus will pick up and process ideas from the Ideas topic. Jpl offered to make an SQL database with a webform for easy input of processed ideas from Ideas topic. · CRC Worshop Postponed to next meeting. · Summary of targets set on 19/06/2004 Jpl is building a webform for Broodje, Qton and Hyronymus who will go through the Ideas topic in TT-Forums.net and pick up useable/doable ideas and compile them to a list. --- END OF AGENDA -- [23:59:16] Ok. Next meeting: Saturday, June 26th, 1900GMT. Next meetings topics: Idea processing progress Core features, revisited. Programmer recruitment, revisited. CRC Workshop, and Chirho had better be there! Design documents. [00:01:26] MEETING ADJOURNED
